Third Annual 8 Days in May, Eh! Celebrates Diverse Line-Up

The third annual 8 Days in May Eh! Urban Gathering celebrates a diverse line-up of emerging and established Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal artists who represent a strong community of musicians from Manitoba and beyond.

Launching on May 4 for four consecutive weekends, 8 Days in May showcases contemporary, rock, folk, hip hop, and genre-bending artists at each gathering. From a night of blues with Neufeld & Kidder and New Brunswick guests Ross Neilson Band, to local singer-songwriters Katie Murphy Band, Sonia Eidse, Don Amero, and Segweh. The envelope gets pushed on May 11 blending hip hop by Lorenzo who shares the bill with the Mexicana flavor of Mariachi Ghost, and folk roots JUNO Award nominees Little Hawk, to name a few.

Festival organizer and musician Dustin Harder (and his Dusty Roads Band) met many of these musicians at AMP Camp, a one-week professional and artistic development project presented by Manitoba Music’s Aboriginal Music Program. AMP Camp connects emerging and mid-career Aboriginal recording artists from across Canada with music industry mentors to learn the ins and outs of live performance, marketing, and the music business. Harder’s experience inspired him to bring many of these artists back together to perform in Winnipeg during 8 Days in May.

Other artists on the bill include 2012 JUNO Award nominees Brothers of Different Mothers; alternative indie rockers Split Crooked, local rapper Drezus, out of town artists from Ontario and Saskatchewan, and many more. This year, a special ninth day show has been added, venue and line up to be announced.
