Acoustic Experimental Indie Rock

Jason Eastwood

Jason is a musical journeyman.
His musical adventure began in the fifth grade when he first picked up a guitar, and in many ways is only just beginning...
Jason’s first "music lesson" came from Canadian rock legend Burton Cummings. During the filming of a production at the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation, Cummings taught a then eight-year-old Jason how to sing his hit song “Never Had a Lady Before” for Jason’s portrayal of a child-version of Cummings in a National television special.
A deep-seated passion for performance, songwriting, and improvisation was ignited and eventually led Jason to start producing his own music on a Fostex X-15 four-track cassette recorder when he was in Junior High School. Jason’s disciplined study of the guitar then won him a gig as a guitar teacher at Kolt’s Music Studios in the north end of Winnipeg while still in High School.
Jason was the principle songwriter and guitarist in renowned Canadian jam-band DisasterMan from 2004 - 2012. The group extensively toured western Canada sharing the stage with acts such as Michael Franti and Spearhead, Cheap Trick, Ozomatli, The Beach Boys, Journey, Twisted Sister, and Boston while headlining many festivals. DisasterMan recorded two full-length albums - “Prepare to be Attacked” (2005) and “Astronomy Lesson #2” (2010).
Academia came calling in 2007 and Jason found himself studying composition with Jérôme Blais and Scott Godin, and classical guitar with Douglas Reach, at Dalhousie University. In 2011 he took over for the departing Don Ross on the guitar faculty at Dalhousie. In 2014 Jason relocated from Halifax, Nova Scotia to his hometown of Winnipeg to further pursue his music career in the centre of North America.
In the summer of 2017, Jason wrote, produced, sang, and performed all of the instruments on his album “Linked In”. Eastwood's broad, zen-like understanding is the result of his ability to balance a prolific and contrasting history of musical experience. This includes vast study of musical theory, composition, guitar performance, and multimedia, along with many years as an accomplished touring/recording artist. In 2018 Jason recorded "Chillin' Through History With The Guitar" with inside the Historic St. James Museum building.  The popular album features classical guitar pieces by many composers, including himself, witten over the last 400 years.
