Serenade: bringing a little bit of Nashville to Canada and a little bit of Canada to Nashville.
Allison and Geneva are two best friends from the prairies of Canada. They were both musicians from a very early age. They took lessons and participated in competitions for years, before deciding to persue music professionally. They became fast friends in university, where they both enrolled in the opera studies program through the University of Manitoba. For years, they sang in choirs and ensembles together: Allison, as a soprano, and Geneva as a mezzo soprano. Their first performance as a duo wasn't bluegrass and wasn't country, but rather a recital of classical duets by Mendlessohn, Brahms, and Purcell.
Their bond became stronger when they realized their shared passion for country music. Once graduated, Allison and Geneva became Serenade: a bluegrass duo dedicated to the revival of traditional country music: the kind of music they grew up listening to. Their music is influenced by artists such as the Everly Brothers, Great Big Sea, The Carter Family, Johnny Cash, and traditional bluegrass and folk music.
Serenade performed as part of the Winnipeg Fringe Festival in 2018. Last summer they took to the markets, being weclomed by Pineridge Hollow, Wolseley, and River Heights Markets, and in October they recorded with B&B Studios for their Bench Sessions. Serenade released their first Christmas Album, "Christmas with Serenade", on November 9th 2019. On November 13th they performed as part of Manitoba Music's "New Music Night". Due to the success of their Christmas Album, Serenade was invited to perform as part of Oakbank Moonlight Madness, Lights of the North Festival, Winnipeg International Airport Arrivals Entertainment, and the German Canadian Congress' Christmas Market. Serenade's music was featured as part of Manitoba Music's Holliday Playlist and received air play on CBC Radio. They performed as part of Festival du Voyageur 2020. Serenade was recently selected for RBC Emerging Artist Mentorship 2020 and are performing as part of Fete Jockey's "pop up" performances.
Serenade released a music video for their single "Chestnut Eyes" on September 13th.
Serenade's goal is to bring people together through music and love.
